How we use artificial intelligence
The Journal uses AI-assisted tools in its own editorial work, under human editorial control. Two things follow that you are entitled to know:
- Items credited to the JLCW Research Desk— our news dispatches and desk copy — are drafted with AI assistance and reviewed and approved by a human editor before anything is published. Each such item carries an editorial note saying so.
- Submitted manuscripts are processed with AI-assisted tools for screening and editorial preparation. Text leaves our systems to be processed by our AI provider; see the privacy policy and the editing policy.
AI-assisted drafting can produce fluent text that is wrong, and can misstate a date, a holding, or a source. Human review is our control against that, and it is not infallible. Verify anything you intend to rely on against the primary source, which we cite for exactly that reason. Where we get something wrong we correct it on the piece and say what changed.
Accuracy, citations, and external links
We check citations and resolve cited URLs, but we do not warrant that every citation is complete, current, or correctly characterised. Links to other sites are provided for convenience; we do not control them, do not endorse them, and are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices.
No warranty; limitation of liability
This site and its contents are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Journal and its editors, board members, and contributors are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of, or reliance on, this site. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this paragraph may not apply to you.
Copyright and permitted use
Content is protected by copyright and held by the Journal or its contributors. You may read, quote with attribution, and link freely, and you may make the copies that fair use permits for scholarship and teaching. Systematic copying, republication, resale, or use of this site’s contents to train machine-learning models requires written permission. Requests go to info@jlcw.org.
Corrections
We correct errors of fact on the piece itself, with a dated notice stating what changed. Where a correction goes to the substance of a published article, we issue a formal correction, expression of concern, or retraction consistent with COPE guidance. Report an error to info@jlcw.org.
Changes to these terms
We may revise these terms. The effective date above will change, and continued use of the site after that date means the revised terms apply.
