Thousands of  U.S. businesses and other institutions have been besieged by cyberattacks in recent years. But the penetration of the Democratic National Committee stands out. The theft of internal emails, attributed by some to Russia, and the use of those emails to sow discord in the middle of a presidential campaign, deserve a strong response from the United States. Along with the massive attack on Sony Pictures Entertainment and the colossal theft of sensitive records from the Office of Personnel Management, the DNC hack is a sign of how dangerous and real this field of conflict has become.
