Two leading cybersecurity experts Monday called for the creation of a national professional association to help educate and certify specialists in their growing field. Their 28-page study from Salve Regina University’s Pell Center outlines the steps necessary to establish and sustain such a professional group.

“Achieving cybersecurity is far more than a technical problem: it is fundamentally a people problem,” said study co-author Air Force Lt. Col. Sean Kern, with the National Defense University in Washington, D.C. “And since cybersecurity is a people problem, there must be a people solution. This requires developing an overarching organizational framework to develop, manage, and oversee the training, education, certification, and continuous professional development of a qualified cybersecurity workforce.”
