US courts committee backs expanded FBI authority to remotely access computers – FierceHomelandSecurity

The federal judiciary’s rules committee has backed a Justice Department proposal that would broaden the ability of agents to remotely gain access to people’s computers possibly involved in criminal activities.

On Aug. 15, the Committee on Rules of Practice and Procedure included the proposal in a suite of amendments (pdf) to rules regarding criminal, civil, bankruptcy and appellate law. Nextgov first reported this latest development.
